The modern Library is not a finished destination but a constantly evolving ecosystem, adapting to the changing needs of students, researchers, and the wider community.
Library spaces have evolved from quiet repositories into vibrant destinations for study, collaboration, creativity, and community. Digital technologies have expanded the Library beyond its walls, providing access to knowledge wherever and whenever it is needed.
While embracing innovation, the Library continues to preserve and share the stories, collections, and heritage that define the university community.

NAIDOC Week 2026 event celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stories with the Library.

To mark the 50th anniversary of NAIDOC Week, Library Services invited the Bond community to come together and share the stories, voices and experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander authors. Participants brought favourite Indigenous-authored books and stories to read or review. Participants included Jeffrey Brand, Daniel Brennan, Rochelle Vincent, Samuel Shannon and Duane Brown.

Key moments
The John and Alison Kearney Law Library was officially re-opened alongside the refurbished Law Faculty on Wednesday 31 January 2018.
The plan was to evolve the Law Library into a contemporary learning and study space with a mix of individual study and social learning spaces, and flexible service delivery spaces. -- University Librarian's Report to the Library Advisory Committee, September 2016.
The Multimedia Learning Centre was expanded, offering a digital hub with workstations for production of digital media and a recording studio. The older section was refurbished.
The Library led a University-wide review of educational resource asset management, culminating in the deployment of the Leganto Resource List platform and Alma's digital resource features in 2019.
Integrated with the Alma library management system, Leganto streamlined the Library's processes for managing copyright clearances, purchase requests and providing access to textbooks and other recommended resources. Importantly, it delivered a more consistent user-experience for students embedded in the learning management system, and for educators an easy-to-use system supported with automated workflows.
The Library participated in free, global resource sharing initiatives to ensure access to resources at a time when Libraries and Universities were experiencing shutdowns. These initiatives resulted in Libraries supporting researchers and students around the world to access digital scans of chapters and articles. Institutions that were open provided copies through document delivery services to other libraries where their staff could not work on-site.
This kicked off Bond University Library to transform document delivery (resource sharing) through new global networks based on reciprocal arrangements with no transaction fees and 24 hour delivery targets.
When the Bond University campus was shut down, the Library team quickly pivoted to remote work and service delivery. This was enabled through its core systems operating under software-as-a-service arrangements, the previous migration of network drives to SharePoint, and through an extensive collection of online resources. Librarian consultations were offered via online meetings.
As the campus re-opened, Covid-safe messaging was displayed, furniture re-organised in shared study spaces and the Library activity and display program started to reflect a focus on kindness, community connection and shared experience.
Through the Council of Australasian University Librarians (CAUL) OER Collective Program, the Library supported several Bond authors to publish works on the Pressbooks platform.

Sue Hutley, General Manager, Library Customer Services
Sue Hutley has served as General Manager, Library Customer Services at Bond University since 2017. With a career spanning academic libraries, archives, and professional associations, she has held senior leadership roles at Queensland University of Technology, Queensland State Archives, and the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA).
Timothy (Tim) Leviston, Manager, Information Resources
Tim Leviston is the Manager, Information Resources at Bond University, with extensive experience in academic libraries and information services. He has held a variety of roles at Bond University since 2008, including Information Resources Librarian, Faculty Librarian, Copyright Librarian, and Senior Library Officer, giving him broad expertise in collections, information resources, and library services. He also brings experience from the public library sector and holds qualifications in library and information studies from Charles Sturt University and Southbank Institute of Technology.
Dr Sarah Jansen, University Librarian, Director of Library Services
Dr Sarah Jansen commenced as Bond University's University Librarian in February 2025 and now serves as Director, Library Services. An experienced leader in academic libraries, she has held senior positions at both the University of Newcastle and Monash University, building a career spanning more than 15 years in higher education. Originally trained as a scientist, Dr Jansen worked in biomedical research and teaching before moving into library leadership and holds a PhD in Developmental Biology and Embryology from The University of Queensland.

Indigenous Living Poetry Narrative hosted by Bond University Library Services and the University's Nyombil Indigenous Support Centre, 2017.

Indigenous Living Poetry Narrative brought Bond University Library Services and the University's Nyombil Indigenous Support Centre together for a poetry recital celebrating Indigenous voices and storytelling. Held in the John and Alison Kearney Library, Indigenous students and staff shared poems, while raising $540 for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. The event highlighted Indigenous culture, language and literacy, and supported efforts to improve access to literacy resources for remote Aboriginal communities.
